The western Nebraska village of Brady is joining nearby Maxwell in ending its country contract for police services and patrols.
Maxwell's village clerk told the Lincoln County commissioners last month that the village board had been forced to make tough budget decisions.
Brady's representatives told the commissioners Monday that they needed extra money to replace the village's sewage lagoon system.
Lincoln County Sheriff Jerome Kramer says that once the policing agreements with the county are terminated, his deputies would be required to respond to violations of state law only.
Brady's population is around 380; Maxwell's is around 320.
