Omaha Professor Looks At White Supremacy In Book

A new book co-authored by a University of Nebraska at Omaha professor takes a look at how white supremacy movements thrive in the United States.

"American Swastika" is written by Pete Simi, an associate criminal justice professor at UNO, and Robert Futrell, a sociology professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Simi and Futrell explain the difference between movements such as the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Nation, skinheads and others. The book also discusses ways white supremacists cultivate, maintain and spread their beliefs, largely under the radar of most Americans.

The authors drew on more than a decade of research and interviews at white supremacy compounds, private homes and hate-music concerts, among other venues.
