Treacherous driving conditions to our east are causing drivers to take it slow. A blizzard warning is in effect for parts of western and central Iowa and will last into the evening, Monday.
Not a lot of snow is falling, but it's the blowing snow that's making things difficult. Winds of 20 to 40 miles per hour are expected, with wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. That's making white out conditions for drivers.

"Yeah, we just pulled off to take a break," said Andrew Simons of Laramie, WY. He was headed home from Washington D.C.
"It wasn't too bad until probably about 50 miles outside of Des Moines, and then we couldn't really see the road or anything. We ended up slowing down to about 30 or 40 miles an hour, after that it was no fun."
The swirling winds can leave drivers heading straight into the unknown.
"There was a few white out spots, but I just go slow, about 45 to 50 miles an hour," said Dennis Smith of Percival, Iowa. "If it looks like I need four wheel drive, I use four wheel drive. If I don't, I don't."
For Smith, the wind-whipped snow is no picnic, but a lot better than the snow storms we saw earlier this winter. "I don't mind these, when you go through a 16 and a 12 inch, you know these are not bad at all."
Bob Hundt's power was just restored about noon Sunday, after the ice storm hit the area last week. He says the series of storms has him hoping for Spring to come soon. "A lot of blind spots, just be careful. The country roads are drifting shut again, I'm hoping I can get back home, I don't know."
Drivers aren't the only ones who are suffering through the conditions. "The livestock guy is having a heck of a time doing chores, just constant work all day long," said Hundt. "Definitely not doing him any good right now."
The blizzard conditions are expected to last into the night. If you plan on heading out, check ahead on road conditions. We have links on our homepage.
