Plattsmouth is in the process of making formal application for a $250,000 grant for energy efficient street lighting .
Its part of the downtown streetscape improvements planned over the next couple of years.
The Cassgram reports that if it all works out, it appears Plattsmouth would be the first community served by the Nebraska Public Power District to replace traffic signals and street lighting with more energy efficient lighting technologies such as LEDs and induction lighting, said City Administrator Erv Portis.
The grant application goes through the Nebraska Energy Office which is administering the Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants available as part of the federal stimulus package.
The local match for the grant is 20%.
