With the ice storm causing power outages throughout Pottawattamie County, a temporary shelter and warming station has been opened in Walnut to help area residents. The community of Walnut has been without power since early this morning, including surrounding rural areas. Those outages could continue for the next eight hours.
The shelter is located at the Walnut Fire Station at 500 Pearl Street in Walnut. Citizens who need to seek warmer shelter - especially those with medical conditions, disabilities or who care for children - are invited to come to the shelter until power is restored.
If you do not have transportation available to you, call the fire department at 712-784-3811 to arrange for transportation.
