A group of local teenagers were recognized Saturday for their hard work and achievements. The midlands chapter of the Boys and Girls Club honored their youth of the year, the highest award a club member can receive.
There were six finalists, each one displaying exceptional service in the classroom, at the club and in the community. This year's winner was Chancellor Smith of Omaha North High School, who said one day he wants to be a therapist.
"Hopefully I'll be a therapist helping out people in Omaha and helping out the Boys and Girls Club and giving back to organizations that want to help out the youth in my community.”
Smith will represent the midlands chapter of the Boys and Girls Club at state and regionals. If he wins at those levels, he could have scholarships totaling more than $25,000.
