Snow Plow Bills

Blizzard bills still adding up in Cass County according to the Cassgram .

The county roads department pushed the pencil on the snow pushing costs and the total is fast approaching $200,000 and will go higher with more work yet to be done from just that storm. Compounding that effort and the budget concerns is the snow falling today.

Cass County Roads Superintendent Lenny Thorne gave commissioners the approximate totals to this point: $25,000 in overtime (1,028 hours), $5,000 in comp time, $16,000 in fuel (6,000 gallons) and $136,000 in contractor work (1,044 hours.) Thorne said that without the help of 22 contractors the county couldn’t have accomplished what it did.

More work remains for county road crews and contractors. Concerned about the mounting costs, Thorne said he stopped the contract work on Wednesday night, December 30th. County road crews continued to work 12-hour days until New Year’s weekend.
