The Nebraska State Fire Marshal's Office said Tuesday an electrical short in a beauty salon caused a fire Monday afternoon that rendered five downtown businesses a total loss in the eastern Nebraska town of North Bend.
Assistant State Fire Marshal Jim Heine said that no injuries were reported in the blaze. Regional emergency manager Bill Pook says firefighters had left the scene by Tuesday morning.
Heine says investigators believe the fire smoldered in recessed can lighting at A Little Off The Top Hair and Nail Salon before spreading to the other businesses. Firefighters were called to the scene at about 2 p.m.
Pook says the businesses were housed in early 1900s brick structures that had a common roof. North Bend is about 40 miles northwest of Omaha.
