Officials say roughly $7 million in funding is already in place for renovations to the Nebraska Centennial Mall in Lincoln.
Lincoln Parks and Recreation Director Lynn Johnson says $260,000 was raised just last week to help fund the $9.6 million in planned improvements to the area.
Officials met with Lincoln's state senators to discuss plans in November and that the Legislature may pitch in during its next session.
Officials are hopeful construction will begin in May or June.The official kickoff for fundraising for the campaign will be held at the state capitol on March 1.
