Search warrants served and a drug arrest made Wednesday afternoon in Cass County.
The Cassgram reports that Cass County sheriff's investigators and a Nebraska Health & Human Services case worker conducted an investigation of child abuse and neglect at the residence of Leslie Thornton, 56, and Tanis Thornton 61, at 15211 Rock Bluff Avenue, rural Plattsmouth, says Sheriff Wm. C Brueggemann.
Officers obtained two separate search warrants for the residence.
One was for unsanitary conditions that could be dangerous to children. The second search warrant was for illegal drugs.
Officers discovered and seized marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia that authorities say was accessible to the two children living at the residence, ages 2 and 3. Officers also discovered evidence of methamphetamine and its manufacture in the residence, says the report.
Gary Thornton, 29, was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine, says Brueggemann.
The two children were taken into protective custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
