There’s a new monument in the heartland to a group of American heroes.

Lincoln dedicated a new memorial to the Tuskegee Airmen.

It's part of a new veterans’ garden at Antelope Park.

The Tuskegee Airmen were an all-black unit of pilots during world war two.

Several Tuskegee veterans were there to help unveil the monument Saturday.

"A final recognition of the trial and tribulations that the Tuskegee Airmen went through to prove that the blacks could fly, and had the brains," says Harrison Tull, Tuskegee airman.

The Tuskegee monument has been in the planning stages for four years.
