The construction of a new state roads maintenance shop and yard has not brought out the welcome wagon from neighbors.
Six On Your Side reported Thursday that acreage owners nearby complain the communciation by the state on the project has been lacking.
Next door neighbor Jeff Salberg said he would have to seek county permits to build. So why doesn't the State of Nebraska Department of roads he asks?
The Sarpy Co. Planning director says the State Department of Roads voluntarily allowed her and an inspector to inspect the facility today near 234th and Highway 6 south of Gretna.
As Six On Your Side reported Thursday, the state trumps the county so zoning laws and permit requirements don't apply to the building.
However the state as a courtesy allowed county inspection. The building and grounds pass county inspection and all fits county zoning requirements. The radio tower on the land is also going through the county approval process.
However State Senator Dave Pankonin met with state roads officials after the Six On Your Side report.
He says roads officials acknowledge they should better communicate with neighbors before a project like this maintenance shop and yard are started.
