A 25-year-old Omaha man is under arrest after he allegedly tried to strangle his girlfriend.
According to Omaha Police reports, officers were called to an apartment near 40th and Izard Wednesday evening around 10:30 for a disturbance.
Officers knocked on the door and called out “Omaha Police.” A man was seen running out the back door.
Police chased him down two blocks away and took Jacob T. Hurst into custody.
Hurst was swearing at officers and allegedly made threats. He was quoted as saying he was “going to beat (officers) ass” and at some point yelled “I’ll get you.”
Hurst was put inside a cruiser and he started striking his head against the partition between the cruiser’s front and back seats. He suffered an injury to his forehead at this time.
The reports notes that Hurst had been drinking and fighting with his 25-year-old girlfriend. He allegedly pushed her into a wall, put his elbow across her neck and applied pressure several times.
The report notes that the woman had visible red marks on her neck. She said she never lost consciousness and elbowed Hurst in the ribs to get him to release the pressure.
Hurst was taken to the Douglas County Correctional Center and charged with assault by strangulation, obstruction of a police officer, domestic violence assault, and criminal mischief.
