No one was injured Wednesday when a semi came in contact with low-hanging power lines in Bellevue, breaking two power poles and ripping an electric wire from a nearby building.

Strong winds whipped the wires around so much that they were low enough to catch the trailer of the semi as it was driving underneath them at Ft. Crook Road and Georgia Avenue.

"We treat 'em as energized until OPPD tells us that they're not," said Bellevue Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Dennis Mulvaney. "So just keeping the folks in their vehicles and keeping the onlookers away from the downed lines, that's our biggest challenge."

The mishap knocked out power to the building the lines were ripped from and to some nearby homes. OPPD was able to quickly restore power to the area.

Mulvaney said it's the second such incident in the city in the past few months.
