A man walking along Highway 59 south of Oakland, Iowa staggered in front of a car and was struck and killed Tuesday night.

Oakland Rescue was called to the scene by the driver around 9:30 p.m. The man was pronounced dead before a LifeNet helicopter was able to transport him to a hospital. He had no identification. Pottawattamie County authorities are trying to determine his identity.

According to sheriff's deputies, the man was struck by a car driven by 19-year-old Molly Hummel of Oakland. She was heading northbound on Highway 59 when she noticed a man having trouble running. She claims that as she neared the man, he veered onto the road and fell in front of her car. Hummel says she was unable to stop before running over the man.

Hummel will not be cited for the incident. An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday.
