A Nebraska man has been sentenced to five years probation and been ordered to pay a fine for agreeing to a sham marriage to help an illegal immigrant avoid deportation.
The U.S. Attorney's office in Omaha says 35-year-old Shane Schutte of Cozad was sentenced for marriage fraud on Friday.
Schutte pleaded guilty in September. Prosecutors say he married a woman to help her evade immigration laws.
Schutte must serve five years probation, and he was ordered to pay $2,200 for a fine and special assessment.
