Senate Democrats moved a step closer Friday to passing a massive overhaul of the nation's health care system ... or did they? Nebraska Democrat Senator Ben Nelson has eliminated the suspense. He will vote to bring the massive legislation to the Senate floor for debate, but he also included a clear warning.

In a statement released to Channel 6 News Nelson said, "...In my first reading, I support parts of the bill and oppose others I will work to fix. If that's not possible, I will oppose the second cloture motion — needing 60 votes — to end debate, and oppose the final bill."

Nelson says during his years in the Senate he's generally rejected obstructionist tactics. That's how he views attempts to keep the bill from even being debated.

Republicans as a block are opposed to the bill which they say is full of gimmicks, bloated spending and will lead eventually to a government take-over of health care.

Nelson is one of three moderate Democrats who have serious concerns about what's in the bill. If any of the three fails to support Saturday's vote, the bill will not even move to the Senate floor for debate.
