The Nebraska Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a juvenile who was sentenced to 60 years in prison for murdering a 6-year-old Omaha girl. The ruling was issued on Friday.
Jordan Goodwin was 14 years old when he shot Alazia Alford in 2007. He was the youngest person ever to be charged with murder in Douglas County and was sentenced last year.
Goodwin made several arguments when appealing the decision, including that his case should have been handled by a juvenile court, not a district court.
The Douglas County District Court denied his request because Goodwin had not been rehabilitated during his previous involvement with the juvenile system.
The state high court agreed with the decision in upholding the conviction.
