Lincoln Police spokeswoman Katie Flood said that witnesses told officers the driver maneuvered his car around the crossing arm. She says the train was going about 50 mph when it hit the car at 5:57 a.m.

The man's identity was not immediately released.

Flood says no train cars derailed and no one aboard was injured.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari in Chicago says the California Zephyr was headed for Chicago but remained in Lincoln, pending release by local authorities.

He says there were 136 passengers booked aboard with about a dozen crew members. The train has two locomotives and nine cars.
