In what the judge referred to as a “package deal,” 60-year-old George J. Laufer and 47-year-old Michelle A. Laufer entered pleas in Cass County District Court this week.
George Laufer pled guilty to the original charge of manufacturing marijuana, a Class III Felony. The prosecution will not oppose the defense when it asks for probation.
The Cassgram reports that as part of the plea bargain, the felony charge against Michelle Laufer was amended to a Class III Misdemeanor of marijuana possession: more than an ounce but less than one pound.
Chief Deputy Cass County Attorney Colin Palm said law enforcement became involved during a rescue call to the parking lot of Ruffner Pharmacy several months ago when Michelle Laufer was ill. She told police that something in her vehicle may have had something to do with her illness and gave them permission to search the vehicle.
Seven baggies containing 6.7 ounces of marijuana were found. A search warrant was obtained for the Laufer residence at 2309 Hidden Canyon Road, south of Plattsmouth. Drug investigators found seven marijuana plants growing and evidence that the plants were being tended to.
Sentencing is January 11th.
