A former University of Nebraska-Lincoln assistant professor has been fined $1,000 for lying about his academic credentials.
Bradley West pleaded guilty to theft by deception, a misdemeanor. In Lancaster County Court on Monday, the 34-year-old West apologized to the university.
Authorities say West was hired as an assistant professor of management in 2005 on the condition he would complete his Ph.D by
2007. West later presented a false record showing he earned the Ph.D., and as a result he obtained salary increases of more than $5,000.
West since has paid restitution.
