As a child you’re told not to play with your food, but Friday that rule didn’t apply at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo.

The elephants were having a smashing good time with their fall treat, pumpkins to smash and eat.

Zookeepers said it takes some skill for elephants to use their trunk to roll a pumpkin into place and then smash it with their foot.

“We had a bunch of pumpkins, of course, donated at the end of the season and kind of why we do enrichment is it stimulates exercise, stimulates mental thinking, challenges them and also is quite fun for the animals, as you can see,” said Christie Eddie, curator of small mammals.
