A 49-year-old Phillips man has been charged with second-offense drunken driving after he rear-ended a school bus Monday night carrying the Harvard High School volleyball team in Grand Island.
Police say Matthew Patsios was eastbound on U.S. Highway 34 in a 1995 Buick sedan when he hit the bus. The bus was stopped at a railroad crossing, as required by law, and had its rear flashing lights on and a stop sign deployed.
About 10 students and one teacher were taken to a hospital to be checked out. No serious injuries were reported.
Patsios also was charged with failing to stop for a school bus.
The volleyball team was on its way home from a subdistrict tournament.
Patsios did not immediately return a call Wednesday from The Associated Press.
