It was a bittersweet weekend for the Iowa Western football team. The Reivers completed their first season by defeating the 11th ranked junior college in the country, Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls.
Channel Six News has learned that when the team returned to the locker room in Iowa Falls their celebration turned to dismay.
Player’s belongings had been rifled through by thieves.
The valuables taken include about 15-iPods, a few cell phones, one laptop computer and cash stolen from as many as 40 players. The total cash taken adds up to about $500.
Coach Scott Strohmeier tells Channel Six News, “We went from very excited after the game and come back to the locker room. They were very disappointed. I told them we’ll turn it over and do what we can but there’s nothing we can do about it now.”
It’s not known how thieves gained access to the locker room in an on campus gym at Ellsworth.
