A slow-moving snowstorm in Nebraska's Panhandle dropped several feet of snow and created messy conditions Wednesday.
Scotts Bluff County Public Works Director Bob Bennett says southern areas of the county had gotten as much as a foot of snow. Bennett says he's focused on keeping roads passable.
Estimates by the National Weather Service range from 8 inches in Whiteclay, at the South Dakota state line, to 4 inches in Gordon, only 23 miles to the southeast.
As conditions deteriorated, Chadron State College announced late Wednesday it was closing through Thursday. Several other schools in the Panhandle closed, too.
The storm also caused the postponement of at least three high school football playoff games set for Thursday.
The heavy snow and whipping winds socked in airports and hampered travelers in Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska.
