What would you do for a bag of free groceries? How about standing in line for the grand opening of a new Omaha supermarket?
A few hundred people did just that Wednesday morning outside the new No Frills Fresh store at 132nd and West Center Road. A bag of free groceries to the first 200 customers was part of the celebration.
Shannon Roark of Omaha was first in line and said she waited two-and-a-half hours. "Got up and took the bus out here, first in line.”
There was the traditional ribbon cutting and then the store was open for business.
What was inside the free bags? “Very good question,” said Kelli Yost of Omaha. “Cotton balls, cheeseburger mac, snack mix and it feels like soup because its very heavy. It doesn't really matter. I will use it all, it's free."
The store actually handed out about 300 bags all together, not wanting to disappoint anyone. Another No Frills Fresh will be opening next year in Elklhorn.
