Beatrice has earned a designation as the state’s newest Economic Development Certified Community

“Beatrice is as well known for its rich historical past as it is for having clearly defined goals for its future,” said Dan Koch, Diplomats president. “The city is well-positioned for exciting growth in all aspects of economic and community development.”

The program, sponsored by the Nebraska Diplomats, is one of a few nationally that recognizes communities’ economic development preparedness.

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development administers the application process.

“The pride in our hometown and our corporate citizenship is a vital component when showcasing our community, and we are pleased that Beatrice has been named a Nebraska Economic Development Certified Community,” said Beatrice Mayor Dennis Schuster.

Beatrice’s proud heritage and entrepreneurial spirit encompasses the first homestead with Homestead National Monument of America as well as 393 acres of industrial parks, and the new Northgate Crossing, a 155-acre mixed use development.

Vision 2020 is a riverfront project that involves its “core community” working to develop the Big Blue River coastal area to attract additional retail businesses to the downtown district and young professionals to the community, and increase waterfront recreational opportunities.

2009 construction projects include the Armed Forces Reserve Center and Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center that will anchor Northgate Crossing.

During the holidays, the Food Network Channel will debut a 3-4 minute segment on Beatrice Bakery and the making of Grandma’s Fruitcake.

“On behalf of the board and officers of Gage County Economic Development, Inc. we are honored that the community of Beatrice has been named as a Nebraska Economic Development Certified Community,” said Dave Norton, GCED chair. “It is through collaboration with our partners and the private sector, and a talented team that we can continue to move forward to meet challenges and celebrate successes.”
