The harvest of soybeans is picking up speed across the state, despite dew and high winds last week.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says heavy dews early in the
week slowed harvest, while winds later in the week buffeted crops.

The agency says Nebraska temperatures averaged about 4 degrees
below normal statewide last week, ranging from somewhere in the 80s
to the freezing mark.

The USDA says the state's soybean crop rated 79 percent good or excellent. Last year at this time, 67 percent of the soybean crop rated good or excellent.

About 79 percent of the state's corn crop rated in good or excellent condition at the end of last week. That's better than last year's 75 percent good or excellent rating.
