Liquid Siding Warranty Woes Save Email Print
Couple can't get warranty honored as siding peels

A $12,000 investment is peeling away from an Omaha couple who still hold a warranty, but the company that sold them liquid siding is long gone.

Just two years after paying for liquid siding, Jackie Gifford sees that the investment she and her husband made is peeling away from their home near 175th and Harrison. "We could have water damage in there." The chimney looks cracked and weathered even though it was sprayed just two years ago with Kryton liquid siding, guaranteed to last 25 years. "There's $12,000 on the house. We could have gone with vinyl siding and had something, but if it's not going to be there in 15 years then we got suckered."

Procraft of Nebraska sold the Giffords the liquid siding and applied it. The former franchise owner told Six On Your Side, "We did a few jobs, but the weather isn't conducive to do anything here." Because there's no longer a license agreement in the state, Procraft turned it back to the parent company and they're responsible for warranties.

The Giffords are having trouble finding a company representative to honor their warranty that has 23 years left. "There's nobody to apply it, no manufacture-approved applicators in Nebraska," said Jackie. Through the Internet, Six On Your Side contacted the distributor of liquid siding who said he's received four or five complaints from other homeowners in Nebraska. But he said their 25 year warranties apply to the product and not the way the product is applied. "I have not found where the product has been defective," said Richard Lee. "It's always been where the people did not apply it correctly." Meaning the dealers? "Yes, the applicators." The distributor will provide Jackie with more liquid siding, but she'll have to pay to hire a local contractor to put it on if she can find one. It appears the warranty protection she thought her $12,000 paid for doesn't apply to bad application.

The Giffords have contacted Procraft franchises in neighboring states, but they won't come here for warranty work. The Nebraska attorney general has not received any complaints about liquid siding or the way it's been applied.
