The tradition in young Noah's house in for a mischievous Leprechaun to visit while everyone is asleep on St Patrick's Day eve.
I've seen the shenanigans first hand because Noah and his brothers and sisters are my grandchildren.
Every year they would awake to find their rooms in disarray thanks to the unwelcome visitor.
This year 6-year old Noah hatched a scheme to stop the wily Leprechaun in his tracks.
In the doorway was a plate loaded with chocolate coins wrapped in gold, carrots, and a green light positioned to highlight the tempting treasure.
Strung above was a laundry basket suspended by a rope ready for lightening quick release when the trip wire below was touched by the Leprechaun.
Did it work? "Sort of," said Noah. "He emptied the plate and left candy in it but somehow escaped."
Wait till next year when Noah is seven!
