No Smoking Outside Public Building
Expanded no smoking policy passes unanimously. Cass County Commissioner action added the courthouse and law enforcement center outdoor grounds to the area where smoking is not allowed.
The Cassgram rpeorts that indoor locations and vehicles had already been part of the existing county policy. The resolution concluded: “The Cass County Board of Commissioners is hereby declaring the Cass County Courthouse and Cass County Law Enforcement Center properties as ‘No Smoking’ areas to include all Cass County facilities, vehicles and properties used for county business.”
The outdoor areas of the county fairgrounds are not included.
“In addition to being the first county in the state to prohibit tobacco use on county-owned properties, Cass County is one of the few counties in the entire country to take this step,” said Joan Friedman, Coordinator for Tobacco Free Cass County.
