Airport officials in Grand Island want to trade their daily flights to Kansas City for flights to Denver.

Airport director Mike Olson says there has been a significant drop in the number of people flying to Kansas City, so the airport would like to offer flights to Denver, where more connecting flights are available.

But federal officials will have to approve the change, because the flights offered by Great Lakes Aviation are subsidized by the federal Essential Air Service program.
