The state of Illinois is changing the way it taxes certain foods.
It's adding a so-called "Snack Tax."
The tax impacts sugary drinks and candy. Soda, certain energy and sports drinks, and tea with artificial sweeteners will now be taxed higher.
So will candy and even things like chocolate chips in the baking aisle.
Illinois ranks 10th among the most obese states in the U.S.
It's also looking for ways to create new revenue because of the recession.
Almost 3 dozen states charge taxes on sugary foods.
