The board of directors of Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in the Des Moines area has rejected the idea of a second casino in Polk County.
The board announced it would not pursue another casino. Board Chairman Mike Galloway says the idea is dead unless the state gambling regulators revive it.
Talk of a second casino in Polk County surfaced after the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission received a consultant's report that said the Des Moines area could support another casino.
The report also said another casino could take as much as $50 million in revenue from Prairie Meadows and $15.5 million from a casino in Osceola, about 40 miles south of Des Moines.
