A 53-year old Carter Lake man was killed Monday night in a two-car collision along Interstate 80. It happened after 6:30pm about a mile west of the Mall of the Bluffs.

Police say the two cars were traveling in the same lane when one, traveling at a higher rate of speed, rear-ended the other.

The driver of a Chevy Malibu, Adam Burk, was killed when his car was pushed into a guard rail.

The car that hit Burk was driven by 19-year-old Christopher Kopelciw of Council Bluffs. One person in his vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The crash forced Council Bluffs police to close the westbound lanes of I-80 for several hours between Highway 6 and Interstate 29.

Police say the crash is now in the hands of the Special Operations Unit, and it's still under investigation.
