What's billed as the nation's first Terror-Free gas station is open for business in Millard. It's operated by a Florida company.
The new gas station is run by a Coral Springs-based group called the Terror-Free Oil Initiative and it claims to sell gasoline from oil companies that don't do business in the Middle East.
Terror-Free Oil claims that U.S. dollars used to purchase gas made from Middle East oil funds terrorism and it urges Americans to only buy gas and other oil products that originate from countries that do not support terrorism.
The gas station is raising eyebrows from Q Street to New York to London.
Station manager Jennie Grasiani says, "We've had lots of media coverage, which is great. There was even a gentleman in here from London this morning covering the story."
The featured fuel originates close to home.
Jennie says, "Our gas only comes from the U.S. or Canada to support America and not to support terrorism. Our owner has been working at this for some time -- just a very patriotic person who wants to do whatever he can do to help Americans since our troops are over there fighting. This is something we can do out here."
The price might test a motorist's red-white-and-blue blood. Terror-Free fuel is a little costlier than the gas at the station next door.
Anthony Grazzano says, "I think its a good idea… Anything we can do to keep those guys from going over there fighting. I want to see them come back the way they are and if I can do this little bit with this gasoline, it'll make me feel a lot better."
A grand-opening event for the Millard station is scheduled for February 12th.
Spokesman Joe Kaufman says the group plans to open other gas stations throughout the United States.
