"Good Riddance Saddam"

President Bush says his message to Saddam Hussein is, "Good riddance." He says, "The world is better off without you, Mr. Saddam Hussein."

He added that when the heat was turned on, "You dug yourself a hole and crawled in it." And he said, "Our brave troops -- combined with good intelligence -- found you."

The President's remarks came Monday in a televisied news conference.

The President said Monday the weekend capture of Saddam Hussein is clear evidence that Iraq is "on the path to freedom," but he warned of "further sacrifice" ahead on the part of American troops stationed there.

"The terrorists in Iraq remain dangerous. The work of our coalition remains difficult and will require further sacrifice," Bush told a year-end news conference.

"Yet it should now be clear to all. Iraq is on the path to freedom."

He says says the U.S. will work with Iraqis to put Saddam Hussein on trial.

He says he has his "own personal views" on how Saddam should be treated -- referring to him as a "brutal dictator" who had killed many
people.

But he says it's up to the people of Iraq to make that decision.

Bush says Saddam will be afforded the justice that he denied the Iraqi people.
