The owner of Apple used cars suspects a customer went way beyond kicking the tires. Tom Holzapfel says, “There’s a mess of glass everywhere.”
Nine cars, more than one third of his inventory, have smashed windows. Seven cars with shattered rear windows that have defrost strips that are expensive to replace. Tom says, “It’s going to hurt a lot. You can’t sell cars with broken windows that are not safe.”
He estimates damage to 14 windows and glass cleanup could reach $15,000.
And the used car dealer suspects his lot at 42nd and l in Omaha wasn’t a random target.
Security camera video from the bar next door shows a short, thin man walking into the lot about 1:25am and swinging a bat or large hammer. The video shows the man jumping in a car that pulls out of the alley so he had an accomplice.
Omaha police are investigating what Tom suspects is an act of revenge. He says, “I think we repoed this guy’s car and he didn’t like it too much so this is his way of getting back.”
The used car dealer is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
