Nearly $8 million in grants aimed at neighborhood revitalization will be going to various Nebraska cities.
The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has awarded the $7.87 million through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
Cities benefiting include Bellevue, Grand Island, Hastings, Lincoln and Omaha, as well as areas in northeast Nebraska.
The grants go to purchase, redevelop and rehabilitate foreclosed, abandoned and vacant properties. The intent of the program is to return safe and decent affordable housing to such areas.
