NE Health Officials Adjust Swine Flu Reporting

Nebraska health officials say they are changing how they report the state's outbreak of swine flu to better track its spread and impact.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services said it will stop reporting individual cases. Instead, it will report how widespread the virus is. The adjustment is consistent with new federal policies and the state's practices for tracking seasonal flu.

The state's chief medical officer says the feeling nationally is that the number of confirmed cases in the state are probably underestimated. Not everyone who gets sick is tested.

Nebraska is currently reporting a sporadic level of flu.

As of last week, 413 cases of the H1N1 virus had been confirmed since the outbreak began in April.
