A bizarre car crash over night puts a heartland man in jail and has a car dealership looking at a huge loss.

50-year old Neil Langer of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska is accused of driving into several vehicles and a sign at Performance Volkswagen near 124th and Harrison.

In all he damaged eight cars, including his own.

The economy is hitting the auto industry hard.

And Performance Volkswagen is no exception.

"We’re facing some challenges these days so every little hiccup just adds a little more on the plate for us to deal with," Performance Volkswagen General Manager Tyrone Williams said.

One of those hiccups moved several cars off the lot here, but not in a good way.

Sarpy County Sheriffs' Deputies were called to the lot around 1:30 Thursday morning.

"What they found was a 2009 Dodge Challenger that was overturned on the side of the vehicle and it apparently struck six other vehicles in the parking lot," Lt. Mark Trapp of the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office said. "The driver of the vehicle was intoxicated and he was later charged for driving under intoxication and willful reckless driving."

Williams got the call about 2 AM.

"Realized we had more than a few cars there actually ended up being seven or our vehicles right on our front line,” he said. “Some of our certified pre-owned vehicles are what was involved. It’s very unusual. You have an occasional incidence here and there maybe a little vandalism every now and then but never anything of this substantial with also included our marquee sign too so we've got some property damage also. It’s not going to be a small dollar amount it's going to be a little hefty, no question at all."

At least one of the cars was a total loss.

Damage to others included scratches and dents to much worse.

Counting the suspect's vehicle, damages could exceed 100-thousand dollars.

"We’re very thankful it didn't happen when employees or potential customers were on the lot, so we're very grateful that no one got hurt," Williams said.

The cars have been turned over to the performance body shop and insurance adjusters are looking them over.
