Loup City Public Schools in rural Nebraska has been selected to receive $8,800 from the federal-stimulus package to install a wind turbine.
The grant for the turbine was announced on Tuesday by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack along with 144 other recipients of more than $15.3 million in grants to start or expand businesses in rural communities.
The turbine is supposed to help educate students about the importance of wind as an energy source and teach them about career opportunities in the alternative-energy field.
Loup City Public Schools is one of the first six schools in Nebraska to partner with the National Renewable Energy Lab's Wind for Schools program.
