Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services CEO Kerry Winterer has scheduled a news conference to announce updates regarding the treatment of people with developmental disabilities.
Monday's news conference comes in the wake of eight deaths of people who were moved from the Beatrice State Developmental Center in February.
Twenty-one former Beatrice residents remain in hospitals or nursing homes following the decision to remove 47 people from the center who were described as medically fragile.
Hundreds of cases of alleged abuse and neglect at the center, coupled with repeated failures of federal inspections, led to a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice last year in which the state promised to improve conditions.
