Saturday’s second annual O! What A Duck Race at Heartland Of America Park raised $120,000 for the Omaha Food Bank. More than 26,800 toy ducks were “adopted.”
There was no million dollar winner plucked from the bunch, but there were other guaranteed big winners. John Talbott won the grand prize, a 2009 Nissan Versa from Nissan of Omaha.
The event was a great way for the food bank to raise funds and to create awareness of hunger in the community. In Douglas County alone, 53,000 people live below the poverty line and nearly 17,000 of them are children.
"I always think it's important to support the local food bank and to try to give back to the community a little bit,” said Tim Galligan.
"It's great, it's a great opportunity for us to help out the community and teach the kids to give a little bit back so it's a great day, too, great weather,” noted Mary Galligan.
