An Iowa man who broke out of the Montgomery County Jail with the help of his girlfriend has been sentenced for a gun crime.

Stewart Sellers, 34, of Red Oak, Iowa, escaped from jail in January 2008. His girlfriend, Jessica Johnson used a sawed-off shotgun to free him.

Sellers pleaded guilty in September to possessing an unregistered weapon. On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Robert Pratt sentenced him to 10-years in federal prison -- the maximum penalty.

Sellers is already serving a 10-year sentence for the escape and a drug charge. This penalty will be consecutive meaning he'll serve 20-years in prison.

Sellers and his girlfriend stole several cars in his one day of freedom. They stopped in Loveland and Crescent, Iowa.

He was arrested the following day along with his girlfriend at a home at 41st and Spencer.
