Culver Hops Train Again For Expanded Rail Service

Gov. Chet Culver is hitting the rails again to push for expanded passenger rail service in Iowa.

Culver will hop aboard the Iowa Unlimited in Iowa City on Sunday with stops planned in West Liberty, Durant, Walcott and Moline, Ill.

He will continue on to Chicago on Monday, where he will participate in the Midwest High Speed Rail Summit.

Culver and Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn are expected to sit down at the summit to discuss proposed routes from Chicago to Dubuque and Chicago to Iowa City. Current proposals call for the Chicago to Iowa City route to expand to Des Moines and points further west.

Culver included $3 million in his economic stimulus plan for expanded passenger rail service. Federal dollars would fund most of the project.
