Authorities have identified the passenger who died in Saturday's small plane crash in northeastern Nebraska. The Knox County Sheriff's Department said Monday 37-year-old Dan Johnson from Lynch was killed in the crash about two miles west of Verdel.

The plane's pilot and owner, Richard Nielsen of Lynch, was injured. A woman who answered the phone at the Niobrara Valley Hospital in Lynch said Nielsen was not a patient at the hospital. Previously, hospital officials had declined to reveal any information about Nielsen's condition because of privacy laws.

The twin-engine Beechcraft, which was manufactured in 1944, crashed in a field around 2 p.m. The plane wasn't in contact with air traffic controllers, which isn't unusual for a small plane. A flight plan hadn't been filed.
