Law enforcement records say crime overall dropped 7 percent last year in Nebraska.
Executive director Michael Behm of the Nebraska Crime Commission said Wednesday that nearly 54,700 crimes were reported last year, compared with more than 58,600 in 2007.
These numbers include only murder-manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft and arson.
But statistics show that violent crimes rose 3 percent last year.
More than 5,300 violent crimes were reported in 2008, compared with nearly 5,150 in 2007.
Murder and manslaughter cases rose 5 percent, from 64 to 67.
