22 Nebraska Students Earn Scholarships From Charity
The American Cancer Society, High Plains Division, recently announced that 22 students from Nebraska will be recipients of a Childhood Cancer Survivor Scholarship.
This award gives young cancer survivors the opportunity to pursue an undergraduate degree from an accredited university, college, vocational or trade school.
In 2009, the High Plains Division of the American Cancer Society (including the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Hawai’i) awarded 201 scholarships for a total of $200,500.
This year’s recipients from Nebraska are:
Allison Aldrich, Schuyler, will attend Nebraska Wesleyan University
Ronald Cerny Jr., Omaha, will attend the University of Nebraska-Omaha
Molly Chapman, Scottbluff, will attend the University of Wyoming
Lettie Connelly, Lincoln, will attend the University of Nebraska-Omaha
Zane Fried, Omaha, will attend the University of Southern California
Benjamin Fullerton, Neligh, will attend the University of Nebraska-Kearney
Lacey Gerbig, Lincoln, will attend the Bryan LGH College of Health Sciences
Cameron Killen, Omaha, will attend the University of Kansas
Courtni Kopietz, Omaha, will attend the University of Nebraska-Omaha
Derek Neben, Papillion, will attend Nebraska Wesleyan University
Kim Patterson, Omaha, will attend Rockhurst University
Andrew Pope, Chadron, will attend Nebraska Wesleyan University
Ian Ray, Bellevue, will attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Rachael Schlofeld, Omaha, will attend Missouri Western State University
Matthew Snowdon, Omaha, will attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
M’Kayla Stahr, Omaha, will attend Ozarks Technical Community College
Abbey Storm, Albion, will attend Central Community College
Alex Stowe, Omaha, will attend the University of Nebraska-Omaha
Tiffany Vandersnick, O’Neil, will attend Mount Marty College
Abbey Jo Walker, Valley, will attend Truman State University
Matthew Witt, Hastings, will attend Morningside College
The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life events are the major source of these scholarship funds.
It created the scholarship program in 2002 and has since awarded 539 students nearly $1,419,227.
