The airport in Council Bluffs will be inspected as part of a plan to improve safety at 22 Iowa airports.

Iowa senators Chuck Grassley and Tom Harkin announced on Tuesday that the state has received more than $460,000 in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration.

More than $72,000 dollars will be used to inspect the tarmac at tarmac at the airports to provide recommendations for federal funding of future rehabilitation projects.

The remaining money, more than $388,000 dollars, will be used to help the state review and improve its airport safety plan.

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) applauds the grants. He says, “We need to determine how to have the best airports within the limited funding that is available. These studies will help achieve that mission for Iowa airports." He adds, “I am pleased that Iowa has received funds to study the best ways to improve airport infrastructure.”
